Interview with Stacey Kennedy

As our Canada Day Blog Hop comes to a close - I have one more special guest!  Fabulous paranormal/urban fantasy/erotica author Stacey Kennedy!!!

About Stacey:

I love the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genre and love a series more!! Nothing can hook me in more than an adventure and one that keeps on going. I love a page turner, one where I’m up at a ridiculous time and my eyes burn because I can’t stop reading. Witty characters, dominant men, danger, action, romance and hot sex―oh my!
My novels are lighthearted fantasy, heart squeezing, thigh-clenching romance, and even give a good chuckle every now and again.  I’m not a planner.  I don’t write with a set idea because no matter what I plan, the characters’ voices always come through and demand I listen to them. So, I gave up trying to fight it!

The journey as a writer all began when I was a teen and wrote poetry, which still to this day I pull out to have a good laugh.  Later on, I tried a couple of times to put a book together with no such luck.  Couldn’t ever get past the first few chapters.  But once I was exposed to the paranormal world, ideas came quickly.
At first, it was a way to keep my brain alive since being a stay at home mom can be a little let’s say―numbing. It was an escape from screaming kids, dirty diapers and plain old mom duty.  It started as a hobby, but as the stories progressed it became a passion. Now, I indulge at nap time, especially the juicy bits! Every mom needs a good thrill!

So here in Ontario, Canada, I am a thirty one year old wife, mom, house cleaner, cook, teacher, play-doh extraordinaire, swing pusher, toddler chaser after – who loves the outdoors, curling up with the latest flick, and if I’m not plugging away at a new novel, I’ve got my nose buried deep in a good book.  So there it is―my life!

AT:   Where in Canada do you live?  Tell us what you love about your town or city.
SK:  I live in southwestern Ontario in Waterloo Region. The best thing about this area is that there are two major cities only an hour away, London and Toronto. So, if I’m looking for excitement I just hop on the highway and I can find it in no time. Then, I can come home to a city that’s not small by any means—population- 534,900—yet, it’s not really like a big city either. It is an amalgamation of the City of Galt, the towns of Preston and Hespeler, and the hamlet of Blair.—so yes, it has a large population, but each of those areas have a small town feel.

AT:  Who is your favorite Canadian Author? Actor? Artist?
SK:  I love lots of Canadian Authors, but some of my favorite are, Lynsay Sands and Kelley Armstrong.

AT:  What is our favorite thing to do for Canada Day?  Do you go watch the fireworks? Or have a BBQ?
SK:  We’ve missed out on fireworks for the past five years because we have two little ones that just couldn’t stay up late enough. But now, being three and five years old, we can celebrate Canada Day right this year. We always have a great together with family and friends, but this time around, we can enjoy the fireworks too.

AT:  If you could set a novel in Canada, where and what time period would you do so?

SK:  I plan to write a contemporary romance set in St. Jacobs, Ontario—it’s a farming community with a little quant downtown, and has a great Farmer’s Market. It’ll be in present time; me and historical novels do not get along.

AT:  You recently went on vacation - where is your favorite place to travel? Why?
SK:  My hubby and I went to Mexico—just the two of us—and had a blast. We hadn’t been away since our honeymoon which was seven years ago, so to say we needed a vacation is an understatement.  I hope in the future to take a Alaska cruise, tour Europe, and many more places. But our first priority right now is the kids so our travel plans will just have to wait until their older.

AT:  What book is at the top of your TBR pile?
SK:  I have so many on my TBR list right now it is not even funny. I’ll tell you this though, whenever Katie MacAlister releases a new dragon book, it goes right to the top.

AT:  Of all the characters you've written who is your favorite and why?
SK:  Impossible answer. I love all my characters and for all different reasons. Right now, I’m smitten over Ryker, but that’s because I just finished Tainted Blood. When I start the next Lingering Spirit book, Dark Shadow, I’m sure I’ll be head over heels in love with Kipp.

Cats or Dogs?
Both. We have three cats and one dog in the Kennedy household.

Black or White?
Black—not only does it make me look skinner, but white just gets too darn dirty with little kiddies around.
Wine or Beer?
Beer—an ice cold Alexander Keiths. YUM!

Movie or TV?
I love Paranormal State, True Blood, Dexter, and so many others—so I’m a big TV fan, but on the weekends we watch lots of movies too. Anything but an action flick and I’m happy.

E-book or Real book?
I tend to buy all my favorite authors is real book, except if it’s a new release and in hardcover. Sorry I just don’t pay $35 for any book. If that’s the case, I always go ebook, and anything else I read is an ebook too.

Coffee or Tea?
Coffee. I will admit with no shame that I am addicted. Without it, I’m pretty sure I couldn’t survive the morning.
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate…nom, nom, nom. Anything and everything that involves chocolate I will happily consume. Although, I do think the scent of vanilla is pretty, especially in bubble bath.

Favorite Holiday?
Christmas!!!  YAH!! I love Santa!

Day or Night?
I’m naturally a night person, but having kids has forced me to be a day kinda gal.

Favorite Day of the Week?
Monday, Wednesday and Friday—these are the mornings that my son goes to preschool and I  have total peace in my house for four hours so I can write.
