Guest Post & Giveaway: Illicit Magic Blog Tour

Guest Post by Camilla Chafer

Vampires, werewolves... yeah, been there, done that over the last few years (and loved it!) But you know what, trends are turning and this year is going to be all about the witch (and not just because I said so...well, maybe, a little bit).

One of the reasons I chose to write about witches was because witches are so closely identified with women, probably more so than any other supernatural creature. While our most popular vampires are brooding hunks, our werewolves equally hot males... where are the powerful women? Well, they’re the witches and we’ve always loved them from Bewitched to Buffy’s Willow.

This year’s season of the witch is very much echoed in what TV and movies are currently producing. Already out is The Vampire Diaries’ Bonnie, then there’s True Blood’s new witch coven creating havoc in Bon Temps. Hitting screens soon is the new YA supe drama The Secret Circle, which is, you guessed it, all about witches.

But we’ve always loved witches, haven’t we? So let’s not forget about all eight seasons of Charmed, with the Halliwell sisters fighting all manner of evil and developing cool powers, though TV show Eastwick never really took off. I grew up with Sabrina the Teenage Witch and who didn’t love The Craft way back in 1996 or Practical Magic’s witchy Owens’ family? Then lately there has been this little film series called Harry Potter...

So, what’s the allure? I think it’s all down to the magic - the ability to see things that shouldn’t be possible, the temptation of what you would be able to do if you had super powers too, the havoc magic causes. Basically, it’s a whole world of fun!

Who is your favourite witch?

About Camilla:
Hi, I'm Camilla and I'm the author of Illicit Magic and Unruly Magic, the first two books in the Stella Mayweather Paranormal Series. The series starts with a lonely young woman, Stella, who has been caught up in a terrifying witch hunt and is whisked thousands of miles away to what she thinks is safety to learn her craft. The series is a blend of magic, mystery and romance with a splash of humour - and while the girls really do go all out to save themselves, there's always a hunky guy or two on hand to help them out.

I live in London, UK but I try to travel as often as I can - lately I've been to Paris, all over Denmark, Luxembourg, and several US states. In my day job I'm a journalist and editor so I write for magazines, newspapers and websites throughout the world (my favourite assignment was spending a week riding rollercoasters - if you listen carefully you can probably still hear me screaming).

  1. Being a practicing Wiccan myself for many years, I would have to say my favorite Witch is my mother, who often has her tarot cards spread out and does magic in her own way, but would laugh at actually being called a Witch.

  2. Samantha from Bewitched! I used to try to wrinkle and wiggle my nose just like she did :)

  3. Great post! Loved "Charmed" and of course, Willow, from Buffy :-)

  4. This sounds like an amazing book. Looking forward to reading it one way or another. :)

My favourite witch to date is Willow from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

thanks for the chance to win and great guest post!

  5. Favorite witch hmmm.... I don't think I have a favorite witch but I do have favorite warlock-thing-type-guy. He was on that movie The Covenant. My favorite one was the leadc guy, Caleb Danvers, just because he was the best =]

  6. I have to say Tiffany Aching of Terry Pratchett's Discworld YA trilogy. She was funny, no-nonsense, and definitely flawed and awesome!

  7. When I was a kid, my favourite witch was Glinda The Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz.
