A Day in the Life of.. Delilah Marvelle! (& GIVEAWAY!)

Welcome to Stitch Read Cook's weekly feature!!

A Day in the Life of..

This is where us bloggers & fans get a glimpse inside the days of our favorite authors!

----------
Delilah Marvelle spent her youth studying various languages, reading voraciously, and playing the pianoforte. She confesses that here ends the extent of her gentle breeding. She was a naughty child who was forever torturing her parents with countless adventures that they did not deem respectable. Confined to her room on many occasions due to these misadventures, she discovered the quill and its amazing power. Soon, to the dismay of her parents, she rather enjoyed being confined to her room and finished writing her first historical romance (which was a heart stopping 800 pages long...) at the age of 14.

You can visit her at her website at or her blog that explores the naughtier side of history at her blog!

The Day in the Life of Delilah Marvelle

People seem to think that because of what I write my life must be insanely erotic and exciting.  Heh.  Let me just say that I only write about all the things I “used to do.”  A girl has deadlines, you know.  When I’m not traveling in the name of conventions and meeting readers or research, my life is pretty boring.  Don’t believe me?  Here’s a day in the life of...my life.

7 a.m. Wake up and tug kids out of bed.  Stumble into the kitchen and make lunches.  I was too tired to make it before I went to bed, though I kick myself every morning for waiting until morning.  I eat breakfast right along with them, though I’m usually not coherent enough to know what I’m eating.  But I know I’m eating something.

8:10 a.m.  Kids and husband are out the door, I grab a Starbucks Frappuccino, chug it and plunk down into a chair.  I write and stare at the computer screen.  I write and stare at the computer screen.  And when I write, mind you, I read it aloud as I’m writing it, in a British accent.  After all, my characters are all British.  Well...no...not all.  In my recent series they’re also Irish-American, not just British.  And so, yes, I got into the Irish accent a bit.

11:30 a.m.  I need inspiration.  Nude models aren’t cutting it for me.  Time for Frappuccino number 2 and digging through research papers and books to try to make sense of what I was supposed to focus on and write.  I snack on pumpkin seeds, fruit and brie with fig preserved (one of my favorites).
1 p.m.  I realize half my day is gone and I still have 20 pages to write.  I chug another frappuccino.  Three fraps a day is the norm.  Starbucks makes millions off me.

4 p.m.  Kids come home and although my day should be done, I’m peering in on them and the writing still.  Until 5 p.m. rolls around.  I feel like nothing is done.  EVER.  Then I take the evening to be with my family and guess what?  The next day, it starts all over again.  Boring?  I told you.  Want to see the more exciting part of my life?  Check out one of my newsletters that gives you a better feel for my day in the life.

  6. Thanks for a fascinating video. I loved looking at the places you visited in New York City. I've never been there, but do intend to visit it one day.

I read all about your day and laughed when I read that you read your books in a British accent. You know I'm English and found this funny. I really loved the fact that you had a pictures of my Queen and Will and Kate up.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
