After Happily Ever After

Thank you for having me today. At first I wondered when I was asked to share something about a couple I’d written for your, After the Happily Ever After blog, I thought what more is there really to say after our couples ride into the sunset? But then I got to thinking about a few novellas I wrote which required condensed storylines and one couple in particular that I always sort of saw moving through the world together. Parker Price and Kelly O’Shay were the hero and heroine from my novella, Lucky Charm (Hot Ticket).

Parker is a professional baseball player who hits a slump after netting a cool hundred and ten million dollar contract with the Mets. Kelly is a fiery sports reporter, trying to make her way up the ranks and land a gig on ESPN. I loved writing these two and thought of them often afterwards. The story ends with Parker asking Kelly to marry him on the huge jumbotron during a baseball game. Of course, she said yes.

Pan forward five years down the road and we see the happily married couple living in Connecticut and keeping an apartment in N.Y. Kelly works a few days a week for a weekend show she does on ESPN. They’ve got three beautiful daughters and Kelly is pregnant again. Parker has resigned himself to the fact that his future will be filled with ballet recitals and Barbie dolls as the girls show no interest in sports -- much to the chagrin of both parents.

Parker is just stepping up to bat when the Jumbotron shows Kelly’s lovely face and he stops just short of the batter’s box. A broad smile breaks across his face as he reads the sign Kelly holds above her rounded belly: IT’S A BOY! The crowd begins to applaud and then the stadium breaks into pandemonium when Kelly drops the sign to reveal a second one behind it: AND A GIRL!

Coming next from Julia London:

Desperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family's ruin. Upon the earl's death she and her sisters stand to lose the luxury of their grand home - and their place on the pedestal of society - to their stepbrother and his social-climbing fiancée. Forced to act quickly, Honor makes a devil's bargain with the only rogue in London who can seduce her stepbrother's fiancée out of the Cabots' lives for good.

An illegitimate son of a duke, George Easton was born of scandal and grows his fortune through dangerous risks. But now he and Honor are dabbling in a perilous dance of seduction that puts her reputation and his jaded heart on the line. And as unexpected desire threatens to change the rules of their secret game, the stakes may become too high even for a notorious gambler and a determined, free-spirited debutante to handle.

  1. I like seeing the mix of romance novels here... baseball romance and historical romance. Sweet! Thanks for being a part of Romance Week Julia!
